Anti-inauguration protest in early 2001, Washington DC. I took this photo early in the morning as the anarchist "Black Bloc" was getting organized and preparing to march. Black clothing and hoodies have tended to be common in the vibrant libertarian communist movement in the northeast region of North America. For anarchists, the color black represents individual liberty and the color red represents mutual aid and solidarity.
Check out if you want to see the work of a Spanish libertarian communist.
9-11, war, increased government repression, fear and uncertanty have had a chilling effect on the so-called "Anti-Globalization" protest movement that began in January 1994 with the Zapatista uprising in Chiapas, Mexico against NAFTA and other (GATT, FTAA, etc.) corporate government trade agreements that were signed. Some of the largest free-market economies in the world (China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Pakistan) are authoritarian single-party states, and the US democratic system has been seriously undermined by two presidential elections overshadowed by extensive fraud and tampering. The world over, individual liberty and freedom for ordinary, working class and poor people is seriously under attack. The collapse of authoritarian leftism (Marxist-Leninism, Trotskyism, Maoism and Stalinism) once offered hope for the people - but does this hope still exist? If ordinary people do not stand up for themseleves, the freedom only they can establish for themselves will most certainly not be delevered by any elected or non-elected leaders.
